MDRs rev up again as races resume

Race Caribbean, the road racing company headed by Derek Larner, is entering its busiest time of the year.

“We are involved with over 10 events over the next few months, such as Fidelity three-race series, Cayman Islands Triathlon, the Brenda Lund 5k, the Credit Union 5k, the Breeze Fusion 5k, the Halloween 10-10-10 and 30k with 5k fun run/walk, the CISPA 5k, and Pedal to the Point,” said Larner.

His team of teenage racers – the MDRs – are raring to go for the new season and will be involved in many of these races, as well as putting at least one team in the Cayman Islands Marathon relay in December.

Tahj Lewis has now left for university in the U.S., and Larner will continue to help him from afar, although Lewis will have other coaches available.

“With the athletes still in Cayman we have an hectic season ahead with such experienced athletes as Dominic Dyer, William Edwards, Delano Callender, Marlena Williams, Kiara McLaughlin, Sherlock Brooks and Victor Maghalaes,” said Larner.

He added that there are plenty of talented newbies coming through, such as MiKaeyla Dacres, Ethan Bishop, Levi Superville, Matthew and Adam Godfrey, Claudina Morgan, Jayda Rae-Smith and Erika Sobers.
