The 2016 Cayman Cookout may be a month away, but now is the time to buy your tickets for its events, lest you go away disappointed. Scheduled from Jan. 14 to 17, the cookout is arguably the biggest and most prestigious annual foodie festival in the Caribbean.
Once again, celebrity chefs Eric Ripert, Anthony Bourdain and José Andrés will be joined by a host of international culinary experts over four days of food, drink, entertainment and more food.
Many of the classic events, such as the wine auction, Olé José, Bon Vivant Champagne Brunch Cook-off and the Barefoot BBQ by Certified Angus Beef are still on the “menu,” but new and exciting adventures in cuisine have been added, so even if you feel that you’ve seen it all before, you haven’t.
For example, on Jan. 17, after the brunch, instead of the Artisan Market that has gone before, it is now the Rum and Robusto signature event at the Harbour Club.
There will be cigars, rum cocktails and live music poolside, all taking guests away to the scents and sounds of Cuba.
It’s a great way to continue the fun after brunch, or to be enjoyed on its own from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Some of the events have already sold out. Seven to Savour, for example, held in Blue by Eric Ripert, was sold out about a week after tickets went on sale online.
Olé José has also sold out, and so has Meat and Greet by Niman Ranch, The Beach Bash by Progressive Distributors, and Wine Tasting with Jean-Luc Colombo. That means that as the date approaches, there is less chance of you getting tickets to the events you want if you don’t buy now.
Here’s a novel idea: if you’re wracking your brain, trying to think of what to get a special friend or family member, why not get them tickets to a Cayman Cookout event? It’s an experience they’ll never forget, as often the celebrity chefs are very accessible and willing to pose for pictures.
Just as in previous years, there is a program to satisfy wine lovers, those with a passion for pastry, carnivores and cocktail aficionados.
If you’ve never attended the Cayman Cookout, book at least one event to get a taste of what it’s all about. Those who have already savored the experience will definitely be back for more.
