A tourist who got into difficulty while diving off Grand Cayman’s northwestern coast Tuesday became the island’s second victim of a water fatality in a week.
The 54-year-old man was reported to be in trouble just before 2 p.m. Tuesday in the waters off North West Point Road in West Bay.
According to police, the dive crew with the man had CPR in progress when emergency personnel arrived.
Ambulance crews continued CPR as the visiting diver was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital later on Tuesday afternoon.
On Jan. 20, a 65-year-old U.S. tourist died after getting into difficulty while snorkeling near Cemetery Beach, also in West Bay.
