After hearing a call to Radio Cayman from Raymond Scott of Cayman Brac noting that a large tanker would be passing by George Town, local resident Zeta Bodden made her way to the waterfront and caught the ship passing not far from shore on April 11.

According to the website, the ship is the GENER8 Atlas, a crude oil tanker built in 2007 and currently sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands. The ship measures 1,090 by 190 feet, making it 100 feet longer than the height of the iconic Eiffel Tower, with a gross tonnage of 157,844 tons.

Having already sailed to Croatia, Turkey and Italy this year, the ship’s most recent port call was the Ju’aymah Crude and LPG terminals in Saudi Arabia. It was passing by Grand Cayman on its way to Galveston, Texas.
