Jo Anne Brown is a household name in the Cayman Islands, synonymous with her Celebrations Ltd. brand. Although her company is known for producing events of all themes, shapes and sizes, she is best known for her weddings.

Her years of experience in the industry have now been compiled to create a coffee table book called “Caribbean Wedding Style,” which was officially launched on Wednesday. It’s hard to believe that a woman with her schedule has found the time to take on this kind of project, yet she appears to have approached it with the kind of gusto and attention to detail that has made her one of the most recognized destination wedding planners in the Caribbean.

Jo Anne Brown

Jo Anne (or “Miss Jo” as she is affectionately known) was born in Jamaica and educated in the United Kingdom, but she has called the Cayman Islands “home” for most of her life.

Over the years, her large Caribbean family has hosted many VIPs, including Jamaican dignitaries, Hollywood celebrities, and even British royalty. It therefore came as no surprise to those who knew her that she would start her own events company. She had always shown a great deal of interest in designing and hosting parties, discovering a flair and talent for the business at a young age.

Her years of hard work – personally overseeing every event – have won her and her staff accolades from many of their peers. She and Celebrations Ltd. have been featured in leading international wedding publications and media outlets, including The Travel Channel’s “Weddings Away” and the Style Network/E! Entertainment’s “My Destination Wedding with The Knot,” which reached an audience of 58 million viewers worldwide.

Mrs. Brown is a regular speaker at international wedding and event conferences, and was named one of 2010’s A-List Wedding Planners by Destination Weddings & Honeymoons.

Her work has been featured in many magazines including “Brides,” “Destination I Do,” “The Knot,” “Style Me Pretty,” “Maharani Weddings” and more. She was also featured in the six-hour full-length documentary series, “Weddings Away,” produced by the Travel Channel in 2004, showcasing her work and the rebuilding of her company post-Hurricane Ivan.

‘Caribbean Wedding Style’

“Caribbean Wedding Style,” which will be released across the U.S. next year, is the first published book of the Celebrations Ltd. founder and CEO. Now available to the Cayman public, the book focuses on the Cayman Islands as a destination for beautiful weddings and events.

It features 19 of Mrs. Brown’s most memorable weddings from the past several years, showcasing the work of the local photographers and vendors that collaborated to make every wedding possible.

Along with her commentary on each wedding, the book features a combination of weddings from local couples and destination couples – including one in the U.K. and another in the Dominican Republic. It also features the high-profile celebrity nuptials of baseball star Jimmy Rollins and wife Johari. Planned by Mrs. Brown, the wedding took place in the Cayman Islands in 2010.

Other high-profile weddings include that of Brooke and Neil, a couple who won their way to Little Cayman via a contest in collaboration with Celebrations and “The Knot” – also featured as part of a series for the Travel Channel.

“I am beyond thrilled to have finally accomplished this goal that I have had for many years,” said Mrs. Brown. “Being able to showcase the beautiful weddings and offer a sneak peek into my world of wedding planning, design and production is so rewarding. As a native of the islands, I am proud to be afforded the privilege of showcasing the beauty and endless possibilities of weddings in the Caribbean with my home, the Cayman Islands, being at the forefront.”

The book is designed to help brides looking for inspiration; those interested in embarking on a career in wedding planning; or as a reference guide for a seasoned professional.

‘Caribbean Wedding Style’ is available via Celebrations online as well as at Belle by Celebrations and Books & Books in Camana Bay.
