Clock is ticking until Amazing Race

Almost everyone has seen the Emmy Award-winning reality show, “The Amazing Race,” where teams of two make their way around the world, dealing with obstacles and completing tasks to win a series of clues.

Making your way around Cayman may not be quite the global trek experienced by those on TV, but it can still be just as much fun, and thankfully it doesn’t carry on for days.

Amazing Cayman Race

The local version of “The Amazing Race” (labeled “The Amazing Race 4.0”) returns to Cayman on Aug. 20. Several teams will race against the clock to complete different types of challenges at various locations, which include mandatory, and often hilarious, photo shoots.

Teams are to be a minimum of three people with a maximum of five and must include a sober, designated driver.

Beyond the usual routes and challenges, teams can subtract minutes off their overall time with gold stars and bonus tasks along the way. There are many prizes to be won, courtesy of the participating locations and sponsors Heineken and Smirnoff.

The race starts at Whiskey Mist at 2 p.m. and the route includes stops at the North Sound Golf Club, Calico Jacks, Craft, Lone Star, Duke’s, Cayman Coffee Club, KARoo, The Kings Head, and Billy Bones.

There will be drink specials and snacks back at Whiskey Mist to enjoy once you have completed the race, assuming you don’t find yourself lost in the mangroves.

The fee per team to enter is $100. Teams must be signed up and paid by 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Tickets can be bought at Epic Day Entertainment at The Strand or by using the Connected Castaway App. For an additional $35, Homesafe will provide a designated driver for the duration of the race.
