Forbes short of semifinals

Ronald Forbes runs the 110m hurdles in Rio Monday.

Cayman’s Ronald Forbes ran the men’s 110m hurdles in 14.67 seconds in the Olympics qualifying heat Monday night, but he did not qualify for the semifinals.

He finished 34th out of 35 who completed the hurdles.

For the 31-year-old Forbes, it was an achievement just to be in the starter’s blocks for the race since suffering a severe calf injury in May, just after a personal best time of 13:36 in Miami.

The top hurdler was Jamaica’s Omar McLeod, and the qualifying cut-off time was 13.70.
