The Cayman National Cultural Foundation proudly presents “Collected Stories” – by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies – about the relationship between a famous writer and her protégé-turned-friend.
The story centers on the character Ruth Steiner, an established New York writer and college professor, played by Marcia Muttoo. Ruth uses wit, dry humor and a healthy dose of straight talk in mentoring her students. Her protégé Lisa Morrison, played by Rita Estevanovich, is a graduate student and up-and-coming writer with lots of promise.
Eventually, Lisa seemingly grows to almost surpass her mentor, casting a shadow on their relationship.
This brilliantly written tale of ethics asks profound questions such as, “What is off limits to an artist taking in the world around them?” and “Where does plagiarism begin and end?” It is bound to stimulate audience debate about each character’s motivation and agenda.
