Grand Cayman will host the FIVB World Championship Qualifiers for Group C of the NORCECA region on Saturday, Nov. 12, and Sunday, Nov. 13, at Clifton Hunter High School, when the women’s national indoor volleyball team will be going head-to-head against Bonaire, Bahamas and Guadeloupe.
Cayman’s team, consisting of 13 players ages 16 to 37, has been training since August. It is led by head coach Mark Ray and assistant coach Troy Alleyne of First Baptist Volleyball Club.
Ray encourages all residents to make time over the Pirates Week long weekend to cheer on their national team and be the “seventh player on the court” by attending and supporting the young squad in its first international event.
Team Cayman plays Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m,
The athletes are: Taylor Burrowes, Chlouie Gaetos, Stefania Gandolfi, Trisha Espinal Geurrero, Stephanie Jackson, Stacy-Ann Kelly, Sarah Manoy, Brenda Mascarenhas, Kathy Miller, Ileann Powery, Chanté Smith-Johnson, Jossanah Smith, and Amanda Wong.
