Hedge Funds Care Cayman, committed to helping parents and treating child abuse and neglect, held its gala at the new Kimpton Seafire Resort on Saturday night.

The theme for the 12th Annual Open Your Heart to the Children Benefit was “Sunset at the Seafire,” which called for women to dress in tropical-colored gowns and men to wear bright bow ties or black-tie attire.

Since the local chapter of the international organization began in 2005, Hedge Funds Care Cayman has raised more than US$2.5 million to help prevent and address child abuse and neglect. The benefit raises as much as $250,000 annually, which is granted to local organizations and government programs to fight child abuse.

At the event, auctioneer Kim Remizowski encouraged bids for prizes including a 2017 Audi S8, donated by Arch Automotive.

“We raised a lot of money and it was a very good night,” Mr. Remizowski said.

Cindy Hislop, chair of Hedge Funds Care Cayman, Committee of Hearts, said much progress has been made as a result of the funding, but there is still much to be done.

She also said the continued support of Hedge Funds Care Cayman is important in allowing them to continue to keep the initiatives.

“It is greatly appreciated and I can think of no better cause to support than the children of Cayman – our future,” Ms. Hislop said.

Funds raised are used to provide grants for initiatives and organizations in the Cayman Islands. So far this year, grants have gone toward Big Brothers Big Sisters; the Crisis Centre; Red Cross; Children and Youth Services; the Department of Children and Family Services; the Department of Counselling Services; the Health Services Authority; the National Council of Voluntary Organisations; the Special Needs Foundation of Cayman; and the University College of the Cayman Islands.
