Cayman Islands National Amateur Boxing team members Dariel Ebanks, Hopkin Ebanks and Alexander Smith left Monday for Barbados to compete in the Caribbean Boxing Championships.

Dariel Ebanks, who is unbeaten since his return to the amateur ranks in June, is expected to perform well, according to a press release from the Cayman Islands Boxing Association. Hopkin Ebanks and Smith also expect to be among the medal winners, the press release said.

The Cayman team’s preparation included matches with a team from London at the Lions Centre in October and traveling to Jamaica last month.

The competition runs from Tuesday to Saturday. Traveling with the team will be coaches Donie Anglin and Ryan Barrett, and Cayman Islands Boxing Association President Ann Marie Byrd and Vice President Leyla Jackson, who will attend an AIBA regional boxing association meeting after the championships.

Cayman Islands Boxing official Angel Almanza traveled to Barbados ahead of the team to attend an AIBA officiating course.
