Cayman swimmers finish strong in Canada

Cayman swimmers Lauren Hew, Alison Jackson and Alex McCallum were also prepared for the cold weather.

On Saturday, day five at the FINA World Championships (25m) in Windsor, Ontario, all three swimmers from Cayman were in the pool for the last time during the event.

Lauren Hew swam the 200m IM and 50m freestyle in 2:26.53 and 26.49, respectively. Alison Jackson swam the 50m freestyle in 27.31, and Alex McCallum competed in the 100m freestyle, with a personal best time of 52.20.

“Lauren, Alex and Ali competed on the world stage, turned in multiple lifetime best swims and set new CIASA and Cayman Islands National records,” said Michael Lockwood, president of the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association.

“The experience they gained has whet their appetites to continue competing at this level, and with continued hard work, commitment and training, I see no reason why they will not do so again.”
