Airport’s new departures area to partially open next week

The new departures hall at Owen Roberts International Airport is ready for its partial opening on Tuesday.

Part of the new departures hall at the Owen Roberts International Airport will open Tuesday, May 1, the Cayman Islands Airports Authority has advised.

JetBlue and United Airlines will continue to serve their departing passengers out of their current gates, accessed through the existing departures lounge, until the following Monday, at which time they too will move over to the new area.  All other airlines will be in the new hall from next Tuesday.

The new departures hall, when fully complete, will feature nine gates, duty-free shops, a children’s play area and a food court, according the CIAA.

A tender process to determine which businesses will be granted contracts to run the shops and restaurants is not yet complete.

  1. This is the new bright, beautiful departures hall!?????/// Gloomy, dark, low ceilings. No glass. Are you serious. It’s as ugly as the present building. Such a long wait, for such a disappointment.
