Martyn Roper arrived at Owen Roberts International Airport Monday morning to take on his post as the 14th governor of the Cayman Islands.
The career diplomat and wife Elisabeth were greeted on the tarmac by a police honor guard, Premier Alden McLaughlin, members of Cabinet, and Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, among others.
Over a 30-year career, Mr. Roper has served the U.K. in Brazil, Algeria and most recently China, as the deputy head of mission for the U.K. in Beijing.
He faces a busy first week. He was set to be sworn in Monday afternoon at the Legislative Assembly. Later in the day, an invitation-only reception was scheduled at Government House.
Mr. Roper’s week will be filled with meetings with senior politicians and heads of civil service. Over the weekend, the new governor will visit the Sister Islands.
