Mail call: Sanitation worker sick days

Records show that Cayman’s roadside garbage crews took 835 sick days between November 2017 and November 2018. That number is equivalent to having three full-time employees out sick for more than an entire year.

As the Compass reported last week, seven Department of Environmental Health employees took more than six weeks off sick during that time. 16 employees took more than 20 sick days.

  1. This sounds like a lot but we should remember these employees work harder than anyone in the Civil Service, and under extreme conditions in a very unhealthy environment. Perhaps the Compass can give us some similar statistics on other Civil Service departments.
