Romario Desmond Brown, 19, was remanded in custody Monday when he appeared in Summary Court charged with robbery, following an incident in which a man was robbed of his cellphone at a hotel.

The matter was transmitted to the Grand Court and will be heard on Friday, 26 July.

Brown, of George Town, was arrested on Saturday following a report of a robbery in which a cellphone was stolen from a man at Margaritaville Resort on West Bay Road.

According to a police press release, Brown was arrested shortly after a 911 dispatch, just before 5:30am. Police said an off-duty RCIPS officer in the vicinity immediately responded and saw a man in a vehicle answering the description of the suspect speeding on Eastern Avenue.

The officer followed the vehicle and provided commentary to other responding officers from uniform, Firearms Response and K‑9 Units, who ultimately apprehended the man on Eastern Avenue.

Police said the victim did not require medical treatment following the incident.
