EY Cayman Scholarship

EY Cayman is delighted to announce two recipients of the 2021 EY Cayman Scholarship, Maria Lewis and Leana Smith.

The scholarship is valued at up to US$30,000 per year for a maximum of five years until the recipient has completed the minimum educational requirement to qualify as a certified public accountant. It provides students, who have shown academic excellence, the opportunity to gain higher education and build careers in the professional services industry.

The scholarship includes an eight- to ten-week summer internship to gain practical experience, and an offer of full-time employment at EY upon successful completion of the university program.

Leana, is in her final year of her Business and Management Bachelor’s degree at the University of Kent, England. She is a returning intern, previously gaining experience on the Assurance team, and this summer joins the Strategy and Transactions team, before commencing her master’s this fall in Corporate Finance at Queen Mary University. She is dedicated to getting a head start on attaining her CPA, by completing classes that will prepare her for the CPA exams during her master’s program.

When advised of the award Leana noted, “I’m delighted to be chosen as a 2021 scholarship recipient. Having started my journey with EY in 2019, gaining invaluable experience and meeting wonderful people along the way, I’m excited to be able to continue my studies and career as a member of the EY team.”

Maria is a second year Accounting and Finance Bachelors student at Newcastle University. She enjoys giving back to her community in her spare time. In 2019, she placed third in the CFA Ethics challenge, sponsored by EY, and participated in the Cayman Finance Program which allowed her to be mentored by one of EY’s Associate Partners.

Maria responded to the news of his award by saying, “I am honored and humbled to be selected as one of this year’s scholarship recipients. I am extremely grateful to EY for awarding me this opportunity to pursue my professional dreams. EY’s commitment to young person’s such as myself and to the community is unwavering. I am looking forward to furthering my studies and advancing in my career because of the support EY has afforded me.”
