If you’re a fan of puns, costumes or both, Halloween is your kind of celebration.
The end of October usually promises a ghoulishly good time for children and adults alike, and this year it should be particularly popular as it falls over a weekend.
Official trick-or-treating day for children is usually 31 Oct., where they head to various local neighbourhoods and go door-to-door in search of sweets. No doubt that will still be the case this year, but parents should note be aware that some oft-visited areas may decide to be COVID-aware and therefore will (reluctantly) not be participating out of an abundance of caution.
Webster’s Estate, for example, has officially announced that it will be unable to host Halloween due to government restrictions on gathering. Therefore, those venturing out on Sunday should check ahead of time that their favourite hotspots are still joining in the fun.
Of course, Halloween is definitely not just for the kiddies. Grown-ups (as they call them in the UK), love getting into costume and makeup and heading out to parties; it takes them back to their childhood. Instead of candy corn kernels, there are candy corn cocktails (imagine the calories) and dancing until the spirits leave them.
In Cayman, the merriment will be spread over a few days, so vampires, mummies, zombies and Squid Game participants should pace themselves and ‘creep’ it real, or Monday will be pretty ghastly.
Here are some of the spookiest events on the list.
Friday, 29 Oct.

It may be an outdoor venue, but the breezes coming off the sea will keep you cool in your costume. $5 drink specials. Come dressed in costume and receive a free Jager bomb as you enter. Boogie Nights Halloween Bash
Grand Old House @ 8:30pm-close
Fans of ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s hits are already well familiar with the Boogie Nights monthly tribute to all things retro, but in October, guests are encouraged to step up their game with outfits that harken back to the halcyon days of Studio 54. Feel free to channel Andy Warhol or Bianca Jagger (but leave the horse at home), or go completely rogue with a disco Frankenstein look. Just bring the attitude and the event will provide the music, courtesy of One World DJs. No entry fee.
Iconic Galactica
Palm Heights @ 9:30pm-2am
Palm Heights Hotel on the beach is taking revellers up to the heavens with its rooftop party. Described as taking guests ‘from Seven Mile to the far reaches of space’, it will have the likes of DJs Craig, Renegade and Rion Kirk playing music that’s out of this world. Tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the gate. There will be prizes for the most iconic costume. Email [email protected] for reservations and information.
Saturday, 30 Oct.

Halloween Caesar Bar
Craft F&B Co. @ 10:30am-3pm
After a big Friday and Saturday night, it might be time to switch gears and replenish. Craft throws the spotlight on its Create Your Own Caesar Bar with a ghoulish twist. The ingredients are certainly the right colour for the job; you might say you’ll “get into the spirit of it”.
