A Little Cayman resident, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday in Grand Cayman, travelled from Little Cayman to Cayman Brac and then on to Grand Cayman before receiving test results that day, Public Health said Monday.
This marks the first reported COVID case on Little Cayman.
The person had taken the test ahead of a planned return to that island on Saturday.
A government spokesperson said the person was unvaccinated and asymptomatic.
Under current regulations, anyone who is unvaccinated is required to be tested and provide a negative COVID result within 48 hours before travelling to either of the Sister Islands.
Public Health said all primary contacts of this individual have since tested negative. This includes primary contacts on Little Cayman, Cayman Brac and Grand Cayman.
Following reports of community transmission on Grand Cayman, from 19 Sept., the Faith Hospital team on Cayman Brac has been performing COVID-19 screening, and as of Monday, all 595 swabs completed have come back negative for COVID-19, Public Health said.
To date, 1,860 people from Cayman Brac and Little Cayman have been vaccinated against COVID-19. So far, 95% of the Little Cayman population and 83.5% of the Cayman Brac population have been fully vaccinated.
