Everyone talks about the ‘good old days’ when times were simpler. Take a look at this picture from yesteryear and see if you can spot places, people and scenes you recognise.
Crow’s Nest Restaurant
Some iconic restaurants and bars linger in people’s memories, even when they are long gone. Crow’s Nest, which was located in South Sound, is definitely one such venue.
Dick Cushman posted the main image on the Old Cayman Facebook page, and a flood of comments followed soon after. Fans talked about the ‘best conch chowder’ and ‘amazing cornbread’, not to mention the marinated conch, fritters and coleslaw.
Robert Don Foster recalled the strawberry shortcake made by Mrs. Cayasso, and others voted for the pepper pot soup as an all-time favourite. Crow’s Nest was also known for its port evenings, or, as Fin Temple called them, the “port nights of disorder”.
Like a number of other popular businesses, the restaurant was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan, and now only an empty lot remains, along with everyone’s happy memories.
As Burmon Scott said, “It was the best getaway spot in South Sound.”
