Cayman Arts Festival hosts two Christmas recitals

Dequan Smith

Cayman Arts Festival, which is constantly championing young musical talent, has decided to bring some Christmas joy to audiences with not one, but two, recitals this week.

Strictly Strings Christmas

On Tuesday, 21 Dec., Strictly Strings Christmas at St. George’s Anglican Church from noon-1pm, will feature Dequan Smith, Sarah Newman, Fran McConvey, Harriet Hennelly, Yoan Tamayo and the CAF Intermediate Ensemble. Be swept away by the beautiful sounds of the cello and violin – a welcome break from the madness of Christmas shopping and long lines of traffic – while appreciating the extraordinary skills of these musicians.

Dequan Smith, a CAF afterschool programme student, was accepted at the Wells Cathedral School in the UK in September 2019. In 2020, he became the principal cellist of the Wells Cathedral School String Orchestra.

Tickets for Strictly Strings are $10 per person and will be available at the door.

Jazz Christmas Concert

The second event, being held on the evening of Thursday, 23 Dec. from 6-7pm in the same venue, is CAF’s Jazz Christmas Concert. Rebekah Jefferson, Colindra McGarvey, Fioni Linwood and Antonio Sanchez will be taking centre stage with a family-oriented recital featuring a blend of Christmas songs, both secular and sacred.
