They’re green, ethical and eco-friendly – and can spruce up any space, indoors and out.

Plastic recycled rugs are a sustainable option for home décor, and one that is making a splash in Cayman through local company Strands of Time.
“We can reduce our footprint, one rug at a time,” says owner Monique McBeth.
These versatile rugs are handcrafted from premium quality recycled plastics, materials which would otherwise end up in landfills and oceans.
Waterproof and durable, the rugs are designed to meet the wear-andtear of everyday living. Because they are made from plastic, they are naturally resistant to stains, UV rays, mildew and mould.
“The recycled plastic holds up to any weather, including full sun, and can be cleaned with a garden hose,” says Monique.
ACCENTS

Featuring an array of patterns and colours, the reversible rugs are great accents for any space, from pool decks and patios to living rooms and other home interiors.
“They make great beach mats too,” says Monique.
Monique launched Strands of Time in September 2020 after a stint in Australia. That’s where she discovered the rugs, which she and her sister began supplying throughout the country.
“On coming back to Cayman, I could not help but see how absolutely perfectly they suit the tropical climate and Caribbean lifestyle here,” she says.
“The wonderful, vibrant colours and wide range of patterns reflect our island life so beautifully.”
She sources the rugs from Thailand and India, and they are manufactured following fair trade principles.
