The Garden Club of Grand Cayman will have a romantic theme for its flower show taking place just before Valentine’s Day.
Held biennially, although pushed back a year to 2022 due to COVID restrictions, the event is officially called the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Standard Flower Show.
The theme for the upcoming show is ‘Love is All Around Us’, and it will take place on 12 and 13 February at Cayman Turtle Centre.
Divisions are design, horticulture, children, and botanical art. For the design division, there will be floral displays with titles such as ‘Love is in the air’ (a spatial design suspended inside a frame), and ‘Days of wine & roses’ for table designs.
The horticulture division will include potted plants and cut specimens like cacti and succulents, as well as collections. The children’s division will be headed by teachers who will decide the exact theme for entries.
The botanical arts category is new to the show and will include photography with the classes of ‘On the wild side’, ‘Pollinators’ and ‘Local produce’.
Also in this category are sections for decorated hats, which can be real or contrived, and decorated packages featuring fresh foliage.
