Athletes’ New Year resolutions: Swimming

Jordan Crooks wants to make the most of every opportunity this year.

Many athletes across all disciplines are already setting their goals for 2022. In the second of a series on athletes’ New Year resolutions, we highlight Caymanian swimmers who are eyeing their aquatic goals.

New Year’s resolution for me, when it relates to swimming, is to become a more well-rounded athlete, especially when it comes to what I do out [of] the water, whether that’s focusing on better nutrition, hydration, and stretching.

When it comes to competitions that I’m training for right now, I have my conference meet in Fort Pierce and, soon after, the NAIA National Championship in Georgia.

Event: 50m free, 100m free

I am excited to start my 2022 swimming journey. This year, I would like to train smarter, improve my stroke techniques, have fun in the sport, and represent my home, the beautiful Cayman Islands, on the world stage.

Also, I want to compete at several overseas swimming competitions in 50-metre pools, 25-metre pools, and 25-yard pools. My coaches are looking at some of the best options for me.

High school swimming is exciting, and I can hardly wait to train with my high school swim team (Homer High School Mariners) in Alaska under Coach Caleb Miller.

My goal this year is to represent my country, family, and school to the best of my ability and make the most of every opportunity given to me.

Event: 50m breast, 200m free

With the world slowly coming back to some sense of normality with COVID, my main goal is to get and stay healthy and compete in any meets that I can attend throughout the year.

I don’t know what could happen this year, just like with last year, so I want to make every moment and every race my best.

The Cayman Compass reached out the several other swimmers. They did not respond before press time.
