The search has started for the new Miss Teen Cayman Islands 2022.
Applications for the 41st Miss Teen Pageant, a signature project from the Lions Club of Grand Cayman, are now being accepted by the Miss Teen Cayman Islands Committee.
Chairman of the committee Andrea Franklin said the pageant is open to Caymanian teenage girls ages 15-18, and will be held on 20 Aug.
“The objectives of our Annual Miss Teen pageant over the 40 years have been to give young ladies an opportunity to showcase their beauty and talents in a healthy competition. The pageant promotes young ladies between 15-18 years to become role models for Cayman’s youth/ambassadors,” Franklin said.
Franklin pointed out that the Lions and Leos Clubs of Grand Cayman have partnered over the years with the Ministry of Education to provide the winner with a scholarship valued at $54,000.
A meet-and-greet is scheduled for 26 Feb. from noon-2pm at the Lions Centre. This is when interested girls and their parents can meet the organising committee and learn more about the pageant.

Reigning Miss Teen Cayman Islands 2021 Asaiah Thomas is encouraging fellow teenage girls to get involved in the pageant.
“You have opportunities to meet influential people in your community, you gain leadership skills and public speaking skills, [and] you will also learn even more about our country,” Thomas said. “The competition itself gives you a boost of confidence as you’re performing during the opening dance or showcasing your talent and public speaking skills in front of an audience. I can also say that all the girls I participated with in the pageant were very kind, lovable and we even had our ups and downs like real sisters would,” she said.
On a personal level, Thomas said her experiences with Miss Teen Cayman Islands have been thrilling.
“My favorite part of everything is the community service. I’ve had the most fun gift-wrapping during Christmas time, packing food for the elderly, community cleanups and even helping to build a wheelchair ramp. I still get a lot of congratulations for winning the Miss Teen 2021/2022 title, which makes me really grateful,” she said.
The Miss Teen committee, she added, is full of respect and love.
“They made sure you were comfortable at all times, though you had to put in work. Another benefit I would like to mention that has changed my life is the $54,000 scholarship from the Cayman Islands Government,” Thomas added.
