Police name victim in fatal Prospect accident

Police say the victim of a single-car crash that occurred on Saturday, 26 Feb. was Eric Sherman, a Jamaican national who was living in Cayman.

Sherman, 48, who was the sole occupant of the car, had to be extricated by the Fire Service after the Honda he was driving struck a concrete wall along Mangrove Drive, Prospect, shortly before 1:30pm.

Following his death, police say an investigation was launched after officers received reports that Sherman might have been the victim of a stabbing incident a short time before his accident.

In a brief statement issued to the Compass, an RCIPS spokesperson said, “Police are investigating information regarding a possible altercation that may have taken place immediately before the collision took place.”

His death is the second fatal accident of 2022. In January, Courtney Oniel Bennett of Bodden Town died after the car he was travelling in left the roadway and hit a concrete sculpture at the centre of the Cost-U-Less roundabout.
