Three year old Zac Pearey with an aggressive brain tumour, was the inspiration behind a Happy Hour fundraiser held on Friday 4 March, at Bevvy Bar, and a charity beach yoga class on Saturday 5 March, with Bliss Yoga Cayman.
Cayman Islands fundraising group “More Love” is behind the charity efforts that ultimately raised a combined total of CI $21,177. This cause was close to home for the volunteers; Zac is group member, Megan Chandler’s, nephew.
Zac was diagnosed with an embryonal tumour, an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer, two weeks before Christmas. He has since had brain surgery to remove the tumour and following two rounds of chemotherapy, has moved with his family from their home in the UK, to Germany to begin proton beam therapy.
The Happy Hour Raffle and Silent Auction saw over 100 people come together in support of the cause and featured multiple generous donations from Cayman’s local businesses in an effort to raise funds for treatment and care.
Megan Chandler, Volunteer at More Love, said “I am overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity we’ve seen from the Cayman community, once again. Zac’s condition is so rare that he is likely to be the only person in the UK to receive this diagnosis this year and drastic help was needed to support his immediate care. My family and I have been blown away by the support – the money we have raised will make a real difference to our little fighter. Thank you so much to everybody that showed up for Zac.”
The Happy Hour Raffle and Silent Auction saw guests contribute to the cause and win prizes, donated by 31 generous local businesses. Special thanks is extended to Mr. Mike Laurenson from Elite Marble & Granite for generous Silent Auction bids, the team at Bliss Yoga Cayman and DJ Jardel McIntosh for making the beach yoga class a possibility and success, the team at Bevvy for hosting the Happy Hour event, and to all the generous businesses who donated to the raffle and auction.
