San Diego State University freshman Justin Hastings captured the top spot at the University of California, San Diego Golf Invitational at the Champions Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Tuesday, 22 March.
Competing as an individual, the 18-year-old Caymanian opened with rounds of 70 and 69 on day one, then 68 on the final day to finish at nine-under par 207, ahead of 89 other golfers.
“It felt amazing to win the tournament,” Hastings told the Cayman Compass. “It felt like all the hard work I put in college for the last six months, finally paid off.”
Hastings became the fifth different SDSU golfer to win that event since the 2019-20 season.
His winning performance also earned him Mountain West Conference Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week honours.
