Not only do Caymanians have a distinct dialect, with accents varying from district to district, but they also have many unique words, pronunciations and phrases.

A handy guide to shed light on these colloquialisms is ‘The Cayman Islands Dictionary’ and ‘Caymanian Expressions’ by Kevin Goring.

Cruff (kruff) Noun – 1. A really scruffy and ill-mannered person. 2. A bad element. 3. A badly carried person. 4. A hard head. 5. Uncultured and insensitive. E.g. “If I eva have ah pool party again I gah hawe make sure I gah nuff nuff security. Lass time one cruff wah up in my yaad eatin’ out all da food n’ tryin’ feel up people women. I hadda run im.”
