The Civil Aviation Authority (CAACI) showcased Cayman’s aircraft registry and other services at the annual European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) tradeshow in Geneva, Switzerland, at the end of May.
CAACI executives noted there was great energy and excitement surrounding this year’s tradeshow, after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the core themes of innovation, sustainability, inclusion and excellence, exhibitors and attendees alike were keen to see the new technologies in this growing sector of the aviation market, the aviation authority said in a press release.
At the central industry event for all aspects of the business aviation industry for the European marketplace, CAACI announced the issuance of an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) to Tag Asia (Cayman) SEZC for fixed wing commercial operations to be registered in the Cayman Islands’ Special Economic Zone – Cayman Enterprise City (CEC).
On hand to accept the AOC was Julyn Tan, Tag Asia (Cayman) accountable manager and other Tag personnel.
Director-General of Civil Aviation, Richard Smith, said “TAG has been a longstanding operator of Cayman Islands’ registered aircraft for private owners and we are delighted that they will now provide commercial air transport services under this new AOC.

“This addition to commercial operations demonstrates mutual confidence held by our respective organisations in assuring safe and compliant operations. We look forward to their continued growth and success as they serve the needs of this dynamic industry.”
Smith also acknowledged the strategic partnership between the Civil Aviation Authority and Cayman Enterprise City (CEC).
CAACI and CEC are jointly marketing the Cayman Islands to the aviation industry as the perfect domicile from which to operate a business aviation company.
Clients that qualify are aircraft owners and brokers, technology companies and start-ups engaged in aviation research and development, the head offices of aviation industry businesses, aircraft manufacturing and repair businesses, and businesses that provide management consultancy and other specialised services to the aviation industry.
At EBACE, the Civil Aviation Authority was joined by a ministerial delegation lead by the André Ebanks, Minister of Financial Services & Commerce; Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, Parliamentary Secretary and Cayman Islands Government Overseas Office Representatives Gene DaCosta and Deborah Bodden.
