Celebrating dads on Father’s Day

Mother’s Day in the UK was 19 March and in the US, it was 8 May. Now, it’s time for the fathers to have their day on Sunday, 19 June.

In the US, Father’s Day started in 1910. It was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, one of six children who were raised by their father alone, and is always celebrated on the third Sunday in June. Most countries – including Afghanistan, Greece, Peru, the UK, and Vietnam – recognise this date for honouring father figures.

In Cayman, families mark the day in different ways, from attending church services or going to the beach, to spending time fishing or enjoying a brunch together.

There are gifts and greeting cards available at many local stores, but the most important thing is to let dad know he’s appreciated this Sunday.

Here are a few of the events happening on the island designed to celebrate fathers.
