Power surge takes down government phone and online services

A range of government services were taken offline and unavailable on Sunday as a result of a power surge.

They included phone lines, websites, and e-services operated by multiple agencies.

Computer Services were working to resolve the issue, which began at about 10.30am, government said in a press release.

According to the department, routine power supply maintenance unexpectedly caused a surge. This resulted in fault protection tripping the services.

By 3pm, Travel Cayman’s phones and emails were back online and the phone service for the police had been restored. The National Weather Service website was also working again.
