A desperate search to locate a missing 2-year-old girl has ended in tragedy on Cayman Brac Tuesday morning.
Police, in a short statement Tuesday morning, said the girl was found unresponsive along the shoreline.
Emergency medical services attended the location and a doctor from Faith Hospital pronounced the child deceased at 10am Tuesday.
The child’s disappearance was reported by her mother who made a plea for help on social media after she could not locate her daughter.
Police said emergency services had responded to the report of the missing two year old at 5:16am.
Following news of the disappearance, members of the public, personnel from Public Works Cayman Brac, the Fire Service and police began a search for the child.
Police said the RCIPS helicopter was deployed and conducted aerial searches.
The Cayman Brac Fire Service vessel carried out nearby offshore searches and, at around 9:30am, they located the missing child.
Police confirmed that a sudden death investigation will be carried out in relation to this incident.
Police also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
