EY Cayman is delighted to announce Olivia Plunkett as the recipient of the $30,000 EY Cayman Scholarship.
Olivia has completed her A-levels at Cayman Prep and has received offers from top business universities in the United Kingdom (University of Edinburgh and Newcastle University) to pursue a degree in Accounting and Finance.
When advised of the award Olivia noted, “I’m ecstatic to have been awarded the EY Cayman Scholarship and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to develop academically and individually with the highly experienced professionals at EY.”
Baron Jacob, EY Cayman Partner, said, “Olivia’s record to date confirms that she is an outstanding student with tons of potential. After a very competitive process, we are very pleased to be in a position to award Olivia with the 2022 EY Cayman Scholarship. EY is dedicated to empowering top young people like Olivia. We have our EY Cayman team work directly with these scholars as they develop into the leaders of the future. Everyone at EY is proud to be able to team with students like Olivia as they pursue their educational goals.”
Jeff Short, EY Cayman Country Managing Partner and Wealth & Asset Management Leader for the EY region of the Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, added, “In today’s world, sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) are vital and woven into everything we are at EY as we aspire to build a better working world. Here, in the Cayman Islands, we are also keenly focused on the ‘S’, the social aspect of ESG, and one of the ways that we make an impact is through our scholarship programs. We recognize that our most important natural resource is our people–and particularly the next generation of Caymanians. That is why the EY scholarship program is so important. This way, young Caymanians can obtain fulfilling and rewarding careers, have an impact and pay it forward.”
The scholarship is valued at up to US$30,000 per year for a maximum of five years until the recipient has completed the minimum educational requirement to qualify as a certified public accountant. It provides students, who have shown academic excellence, the opportunity to gain higher education and build careers in the professional services industry.
The scholarship includes an eight- to ten-week summer internship to gain practical experience, and an offer of full-time employment at EY upon successful completion of the university program.
