Cayman Arts Festival presents ‘Four Strings Around the World’

Violinist Irina Mureşanu

The Cayman Arts Festival is continuing its commitment to bringing international talent to the Cayman Islands, in order to benefit the students it teaches and entertain local fans of all genres of music.

Therefore, on 23 Sept. at St. George’s Anglican Church from 6-7:30pm, CAF is presenting violinist Irina Mureşanu performing the ‘Four Strings Around the World’ recital. It features music inspired by the folklore of Eastern and Western Europe; the Middle East and Asia; and South and North America.

Mureşanu uses the unifying voice of the violin, an omnipresent instrument in music around the globe, to celebrate a wide range of cultures. The CD recording of ‘Four Strings Around the World’ was released in 2018 by the Grammy Award-winning label Sono Luminus to great critical acclaim.

Audiences will find this to be unlike any other solo violin recital they have yet heard. There will be music created by composers from four continents, with pieces transporting guests to Romania, Ireland, Persia, India, China, Argentina and beyond. It also includes two new works written by Indian composer Shirish Korde and Native American composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate.

Various styles of playing (classical, fiddle, Arabic, Asian, tango) will be witnessed on the night, along with a theatrical setup with costume props and a multimedia component of short videos with music and images designed to inform and familiarise listeners with less familiar cultures.
