Looking back in time: Western District Government School

An amazing picture from 1932.- Photo: Posted by Alan Mark Foster

Everyone talks about the ‘good old days’ when times were simpler. Take a look at this picture from yesteryear and see if you can spot places, people and scenes you recognise.

Western District Government School (1932)
We have posted images from decades ago in this section, but rarely do we have the benefit of identifying the people in them. Thanks to Alan Mark Foster who posted this in the Old Cayman Facebook page, we find so many familiar names noted – ancestors of proud Caymanian families that still thrive today.

According to Foster, Oliver Ebanks, who passed away a few weeks ago at 98, was the last living member of the group until his death (despite the asterisk implying he had already died by 1982).

Do you know anything about this school, or the people pictured here? We would love to learn more. Please email [email protected] if you have information, and we will update this story online.

If you have some old photos that you’d like to submit, we’d love to see them to consider them for publication. Be sure to include the credit for the image and any information you have about it. Email to [email protected].
