The University College of the Cayman Islands is looking for 750 participants for an online survey that aims to be one of the biggest studies of its kind into workforce needs in Cayman.
The findings from the survey, organised by UCCI in collaboration with Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman and the Chamber of Commerce, will “inform key stakeholders in the Cayman Islands about the factors affecting employers and employees across a variety of industries,” according to a press release announcing the survey.
The study is part of UCCI’s free training programme, which launched in July this year after UCCI received a $405,000 grant from the European Union through the Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories ‘Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity Programme’, known as RESEMBID.
Under the UCCI project, 55 unemployed and underemployed Caymanians are taking part in a year-long training programme in sustainable trades.
The next phase of the project is the future workforce survey, Cleveland Julien, project manager for UCCI’s RESEMBID programme said.
“It is important for the Cayman Islands to understand its workforce so that we can best prepare community members for future skills and so that we can plug the skills gap between employers and employees,” Julien said. “This is one of the biggest surveys of its kind in the Cayman Islands and by taking part, community members and employers can make a difference to the future workforce in Cayman.”
He said the objective of the study is to improve the labour market conditions across the Cayman Islands to help promote ongoing economic development.
“It is hoped that the findings will help the Caymanian Government and businesses to effectively plan for the future jobs market and labour force and drive employability,” he added.
UCCI is inviting Caymanians aged between 18 and 45 to take part in the employee part of the survey, and business owners or people who recruit for companies within the Cayman Islands to participate in the employee section.
Both surveys will take about 10 minutes to complete.
In its release, UCCI noted that the data and information disclosed in the survey, which is being conducted by Market Research Services Ltd., will be anonymous and not be attributed to individual people or organisations without the consent of those interviewed and/or surveyed.
The live survey, which closes on Friday, 28 Oct., can be found at www.ucci.edu.ky/resembid.
