The Cayman Islands Classic basketball tournament is officially on, after eight top universities hit the courts at the John Gray Gymnasium on Monday, 21 Nov., for the first round.
Akron, Louisiana State University, Nevada and Kansas State all aided to their chances of making the finals after claiming victories against their respective opposition.
In the first game of the day, LSU defeated Illinois State 77-61. That was followed by Akron’s 72-53 win over Western Kentucky.
In the most competitive game of the day, Nevada edged out Tulane 75-66 and then closing the show Monday evening was Rhode Island taking on Kansas State, which finished 77-57 in favour of Kansas.
Matches resume Tuesday, 22 Nov at 11 am., beginning with Western Kentucky vs Illinois State.
