Primary School Spanish Cultural Immersion

The Spanish Department is finding creative means to immerse students of the Cayman Islands primary schools in authentic cultural settings where they can experience the language in a tangible way. On Saturday, students, along with parents and teachers, attended the Filadelfia SDA church where they experienced Spanish language and culture through religion and food.

The Spanish department of the primary schools (govt.) is seeking to engage our children in cultural activities to enhance their language learning. Immersing them in cultural experiences is one way of improving their outcomes and create motivation and excitement.

Grand Cayman, with its large Hispanic community, provides some of these opportunities. One such cultural setting is religion. Some students from the primary schools attended a Spanish church program on Saturday, December 10, 2022, where they were engaged in the various aspects and were able to listen to the language being used in an authentic setting.

They were also provided with a Spanish meal to experience a taste of the culture.
