Jasmine, Cayman’s only dedicated palliative support and hospice care provider, has set its sights on raising $100,000 during its annual Flag Day drive which kicks off Friday, 3 March.
With nearly 500 volunteers set to don blue shirts and collect donations in front of grocery stores, banks and retail outlets across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, Jasmine’s marketing and fundraising manager Ansley Easterlin says she’s hopeful they can hit their target.

“Flag Day is Jasmine’s biggest fundraiser of the year, both in number of people involved and impact for the organisation,” she said in a statement. “We are proud to provide free palliative support and hospice care for anyone in Cayman, regardless of age, diagnosis, immigration status, or ability to pay.
“But that doesn’t mean it is free for us. We depend on the generosity of the #CaymanKind Community to ensure we’re able to provide these free services. Flag Day volunteers and all who donate to them play a major role in making that happen.”
Jasmine Flag Day, now in its 23rd year, actually takes place over two days – Friday and Saturday.
Easterlin said the “lofty” goal of $100,000 amounts to “only a tenth of the organisation’s annual operating costs”.

However, she said, the Flag Day Challenge, where local companies pledge to match donations collected by their employees, should help make that happen.

“The Corporate Challenge started last year with Davenport Development. They pledged to match donations collected by their employees and challenged other companies to do the same. We ended up with four or five matched docations for 2022. This year, we have 12 companies who have ‘Adopted-A-Spot’ and will match the donations collected by their staff members,” she said.
This means many of the donations received over the weekend will be doubled.
“We hope this will help us meet the rising cost of providing these our vital services for so many of our friends and neighbours,” Easterlin said.
The company that makes the biggest contribution to Jasmine in combined collection and corporate donation will be named the winner of the Flag Day Challenge, she added.
Volunteers give two hours of their time to collect donations and anyone can get involved in Flag Day by signing up here.
