Hurlston wins amateur boxing debut
Caymanian boxer Christopher Hurlston punched his way to a unanimous decision win on 7 April. Hurlston competed at an in-house show at Henry Wharton’s Gym in England, where he picked up his first amateur win against Charlie Platts.
Crooks named SEC Swimmer of the Year
Cayman’s swimming superstar and University of Tennessee sophomore Jordan Crooks has earned SEC Swimmer of the Year recognition, becoming the fourth individual Vol to win the award and the first since Michael Gilliam earned it in 2001.
Canadian Open Water Trials return to Cayman
Swimmers hit the waters off Governors Beach on Saturday, 15 April, for the Canadian Open Water Trials, after the 10-kilometre event was cancelled last year due to COVID-19. Eric Brown won for the males, while Emma Finlin topped the women. Both have earned a place in the World Aquatics Championships and Pan American Games.
Academy vs East End league match postponed
The match between Academy SC and East End United, scheduled for 20 April, has been postponed. Heavy rain washed out the fixture for the two Cayman Islands Football Association Premier League teams, with the Academy field left flooded. CIFA has not yet confirmed a new date.
Cayman taekwondo juniors set for championship qualifier
A team of 12 will represent the Cayman Islands in the junior taekwondo class at the AAU Florida Gold Coast State Championship qualifier, to be held in Miami on Sunday, 23 April.
Earth Day 5K Charity Fun Run takes off Sunday
The Earth Day 5K Charity Fun Run will take place Sunday, 23 April, starting from Safehaven Drive. The charity event will begin at 6 am. All funds raised will go to the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre.
