The curtain came down on another successful Sunday Football League campaign on 7 May, when the final of the Cayman Physiotherapy Cup took place.

The match, played at the Annex, pitted the newly crowned league champions Bacaro against the reigning cup holders OtisAir Wanderers.

Bacaro, with league top goal scorer Simone Raiola in their ranks, were in a confident mood heading into the final after winning the Sunday League Championship the week before, where they had to face the Wanderers, who were the only team to take points off of them in the league this season.

Action came thick and fast when the game kicked off, and it was Bacaro who made the important breakthrough at the half-hour mark when midfielder Jason Lucraft opened the scoring after pouncing to fire home following a corner kick.

It’s great credit to the Wanderers that they produced an immediate response by restoring parity five minutes later. Once again, the goal came via a corner kick; this time it was Damion Powell who found the back of the net. At the break, the teams were all square at 1-1, with everything to play for in the second-half.

Chances continued to be created by both sides, but the crucial second goal came for the Wanderers after striker Nic Wellington was brought down as he drove into the box, and the referee didn’t hesitate to point to the penalty spot.

The Wanderers turned to their reliable penalty taker, Steve Dunkley, to convert the spot kick and put his side ahead for the first time in the game. Bacaro had a few chances to level the match, but Wanderers had their keeper Clay Coleman to thank for keeping their lead. Ultimately, the Wanderers would retain the trophy they won last year.
