Local animal charity C.A.R.E. has issued a call for donations after animal food and the battery for its work truck were stolen on Saturday.
“If anyone is able to help and donate towards a replacement battery and/or donate a couple of bags of dog food, we would hugely appreciate it – we’d like to be able to be out helping the community this weekend and not dealing with the authorities and dipping into funds that should be used for spay and neuter and community assistance,” the animal charity wrote in a post on its Facebook page.
It said the theft was discovered when its team was about to set off for work Saturday morning.
“As a small charity, it is incredibly hard when the money we make, which should be going directly to the animals, has to go on replacing items because someone has chosen to steal an essential part of our equipment – the battery to our van, as well as two large bags of dog food which were supposed to be feeding some of the dogs we care for,” the charity posted.
It said Saturday should have been a normal day for C.A.R.E., “one where we go out and work with the community and help people who need us with questions of animal care.”
“Today’s essential job is our monthly grassroots community rounds where we deliver Heartgard, Nexgard, and food, to those who are in the most need,” the charity said.
The Cayman Compass has reached out to the charity and police for comment.
