A Bodden Town man accused of abducting a woman and indecently assaulting her was remanded into custody pending a Grand Court hearing next week.

Melvin Dyke, 37, made a brief Summary Court appearance via video link on Thursday, 15 June.

Police say Dyke has been charged with three counts of common assault and one count each of abduction and indecent assault.

“The charges are in relation to an incident on 3 May, where it was reported that a woman was approached by a man known to her, who forced her into his vehicle, took her to several locations against her will and assaulted her multiple times,” said police in a statement released earlier today.

Dyke also faces a single traffic charge of careless driving for allegedly refusing to stop when signaled by police officers to do so.

Abduction is a Category A matter which can only be dealt with in the Grand Court, therefore Dyke’s matter was transmitted by the Summary Court to the Grand Court where he will make his next appearance on Friday, 25 June.

Dyke was remanded into custody.
