With a new personal best in the women’s 400-metre freestyle, Harper Barrowman got the team of Cayman Islands swimmers in Japan for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships off to a strong start.
Racing out of lane one in the second heat of the event on 22 July, Barrowman split a consistent race to clock in at 4:26.88. That time, which stands more than a second quicker than her previous all-time best from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, placed the 17-year-old sixth in her heat and 36th overall in one of the most highly anticipated events of these World Championships.
Next up for Barrowman (and Cayman) is heat three of the women’s 200-metre freestyle, scheduled for 8:54 pm on 24 July.
