Jillian Crooks took second place in her heat of the women’s 50-metre freestyle with a time of 25.66 seconds at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, on 28 July.

Her time, an improvement of 0.21 seconds on her own national record, moved the 17-year-old up from a starting rank of 44th in the event to a final overall placing of 32nd out of 102 swimmers.

It also marked a second national record in as many races. Crooks won her 100-metre freestyle heat with a time of 55.32 seconds two days earlier.

Crooks now turns her attention to the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, where she is set to join fellow World Championships swimmer Harper Barrowman on a multi-sport team of young Cayman athletes.

The Commonwealth Youth Games take place in Trinidad and Tobago from 4-11 Aug.
