EY Cayman has announced that Alexander Rhule and Zeb Yanes-Bush are the two recipients of the EY Cayman Dan Scott 2023 Scholarship.
The scholarship is valued up to US$30,000 per year until the recipient completes the minimum educational requirement to qualify for a professional license. The scholarship includes an eight- to ten-week summer internship and an offer of full-time employment at EY upon successful completion of the university program.
Alexander, from St. Ignatius Catholic School, will attend the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Discrete Mathematics. His academic achievements, leadership skills, dedication to community service, passion for finance and commitment to excellence impressed the scholarship committee.
Alexander said: “I am incredibly grateful to EY for awarding me the Scholarship, as it allows me to pursue a degree in my chosen field. The EY Scholarship will provide me with an opportunity to grow professionally in a tech-forward environment and fulfil my career goals. The potential to be an inspiration to others and make meaningful contributions to my home country of Cayman Islands is a key motivator.”
Zeb plans to complete his Bachelor of Science in Accounting at The University of West Indies and intends to further pursue a career in tax-related services. Zeb has demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, has consistently displayed a strong work ethic, and is also committed to making a positive difference in the community.
Zeb said: “I am deeply grateful and honored to have been selected as an EY Scholarship recipient. This remarkable opportunity will not only support my academic journey but will also pave the way for a fulfilling career in tax upon graduation. EY’s unwavering commitment to community services has inspired me, and I am grateful for the chance to work for a firm that truly embodies its mission of building a better working world.”
Baron Jacob, EY Cayman Assurance Partner and Regional Private Equity Leader, said: “For the first time, EY Cayman is awarding two scholarships this year. As we double down on our commitment to help develop the leaders of the future, we are proud to be able to support Alexander and Zeb. Both are outstanding students with enormous potential, who impressed us greatly with their passion, achievements and community-mindedness during a highly competitive process.”
The EY Cayman Dan Scott Scholarship Program is named after Dan Scott, former EY Regional Managing Partner, who retired in June after a 40-year career with the firm. The Scholarship was established to recognize and support exceptional students who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership potential, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
Jeff Short, EY Cayman Country Managing Partner and Wealth & Asset Management Leader for the EY Region of the Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, added: “We are proud to honor Dan’s legacy by naming the EY Scholarship after him. Dan was always strong supporter of education and advocated that it is imperative for the individual, the community and the country.”
“We at EY recognize that we have no more important resource than our young people. Our scholarship program, by supporting the development of the next generation of Caymanian talent, has a positive and empowering social impact. This fits well with EY’s purpose of building a better working world. We are proud to pay it forward and help outstanding young Caymanians like Alexander and Zeb on their path to fulfilling and rewarding careers.”
