Each year, Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa presents a concert featuring international musicians as part of the Off the Record series.
This time, the resort is keeping things closer to home, deciding to instead recognise one of the Cayman Islands’ most iconic musical groups: Swanky Kitchen Band. The keepers of Cayman’s cultural sounds are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, so it is fitting that the concert is held on 20 Oct. Originally scheduled for Beach Deck, it has moved to the Aurea East ballroom due to inclement weather. Opening the night will be critically-acclaimed local artist Rico Rolando and the Core Band.
SKB has had a busy year thus far. The members have performed at the Old Fiddlers’ Convention in Virginia; represented the islands at Cayman Day in London, England; are centre stage at Off the Record; and will be headlining the Fish Tea concert for the Cool Out festival in November.
If you’ve never heard them play before, this is an amazing opportunity to right that terrible wrong. Their loyal fans will tell you that their unique sound is something not to be missed… and make sure you are wearing your dancing shoes.
Tickets are $50 each. Buy online at eventpro.ky.
