Savannah-Newlands, Grand Cayman – October 2023. The National Roads Authority (NRA) is urgently calling upon all drivers in Grand Cayman, especially those in the Savannah/Newlands area, to prioritize safety above all else. The NRA is deeply concerned about the safety of residents and, most importantly, the children in this area, and emphasizes the critical importance of responsible driving practices and adherence to proper lane discipline.
Recent incidents have revealed a worrying trend where some motorists use the left lane to circumvent traffic on Rex Crighton Drive, leading onto Hirst Road. This behavior not only disrupts the flow of traffic but also poses a significant safety risk to everyone in the area.
In response to this escalating safety issue, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has been informed and is actively monitoring the area. Motorists who disregard safety and engage in reckless driving practices, such as using the left lane to circumvent traffic, will face legal consequences.
Let us work collaboratively to create a safer, more respectful, and secure driving environment for all residents and, most crucially, for the children in this area. The NRA extends its heartfelt appreciation to the community of Grand Cayman, including property owners, for their cooperation in addressing this pressing safety issue. We urge everyone to be responsible, kind, and vigilant, particularly with regard to the safety of our residents and, most importantly, our children.
About the National Roads Authority, within the remit of The Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure, and under the guidance of Hon. Minister Johany “Jay” Ebanks, is dedicated to improving road infrastructure and promoting responsible driving practices to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users in Grand Cayman and the sister Islands. We work collaboratively with government agencies, law enforcement, property owners, and the public to achieve our mission of enhancing the quality of our road network while prioritizing safety for all.
