Youngsters boarded three boats for the second Boyz2Men Burger King Fishing Trip this past Saturday, 18 Nov., where nearly 90 boys cast their rods, many doing so for the very first time.
“I was excited, it was my first time catching a fish; it was a small fish, but it was still fun,” John Gray High School student Dwayne Clark told the Compass.
A total 87 boys across John Gray and Clifton Hunter High Schools, along with Hope Academy, Cayman Islands Further Education Centre and University College of the Cayman Islands, took part.
Outside of catching his first fish, Clark said he was also happy to be among his peers in a different activity.
“It was a very exciting moment to have time with my classmates,” he said, noting that it was also fun to visit Stingray City, because he had never been there.
Cash prizes for those who caught the ‘most fish’, ‘biggest fish’ and ‘first fish’ were sponsored by Burger King.

Jayden Wood-Watler of Hope Academy caught the first fish; John Gray’s Antwan Myles reeled in the most fish at eight, and his classmate Justin Hernandez-Garcia hooked the biggest fish. They all received awards in addition to cash.
Participant Prince Williams, who was an experienced angler, not only caught fish but also dived for crabs and lobsters.
The 15-year-old, who began fishing at age 6, said he also assisted newcomers like Clark.
“A couple of my friends… they didn’t know how to fish,” he said. “I’m used to using a rod, so I taught [them] how to use it and I made another friend watch while I was teaching.
“It was cool to see my friends out…that haven’t been in the water before. It’s good that they went out and tried to do something and make use of [their] time.”
